Keep Your Floaties On!

Do you ever feel overwhelmed? Like you’re sinking in a pool and don’t have the strength to swim to the top, and wishing, at that moment, that you wore your arm floaties? I get that feeling sometimes and wonder what I was thinking wandering into the deep end without having some kind of floatation device to give me the assurance that I wouldn’t sink.
I find that kids play more easily when they have boundaries because they know they’re safe. The same goes for us in the spiritual life, and this is just one more reason I LOVE being Catholic!! When God calls me to venture into something that I am not familiar with, I have the assurance that if things get a little too fast-paced and I feel like I cannot keep up, I can relax my kicking a little bit and float in His ocean of love and mercy!
What are my arm floaties, you might ask? The Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Confession, and the Liturgy of the Hours to name a few. When life or work gets a little overwhelming, I find myself yearning all the more for these types of prayer! Being a daily communicant is something that I cherished, but because of my work schedule I am not able to go to Mass every day anymore. I can see and feel a difference because of it. My longing for the Eucharist has increased in leaps and bounds, and for that reason alone, I am grateful for this experience simply so that I could grow in love of this beautiful sacrament!
These forms of prayer call us to rest. When we come to Mass, we are called to worship the Creator of Heaven and Earth, and we are also being fed. In Confession, we are confessing our faults and weaknesses, and we are also receiving Mercy! These moments of rest are precious to us because they call us out of ourselves. They call us to rely on the One who promised to provide for us! They call us to not worry about what is to come, but to rejoice in the strength and love given to us in these moments. It is the remembrance of these moments that get us through the difficult times. These moments help us to stay afloat when the waters get rough.
When was the last time you rested in the Lord? When was the last time you took all of your concerns and worries and laid them at His feet while you just rested in His love? These moments are precious and I encourage you to do this soon if you haven’t in a while or to continue if you do this on a regular basis. I will join you because tonight I’m going to Confession and Adoration. Let us rest in the One who loves us and wants to take care of us!
If the question is posed to sink or swim, I would much rather swim!
