Advent is arguably one of my favorite Liturgical Seasons. The mystery of the Incarnation is one that I could contemplate for the rest of my life. It never ceases to amaze me that in all the ways Christ could have came into the world, He chose to come as a child - weak and vulnerable - to win the hearts of men.
Take a few moments to think about the following questions: What would it take for someone to win your heart? Would it take brilliance, romance, or riches? Could you ever conceive that a man, simple, poor, and humble, would seek to win your heart? Could you ever conceive that He would, indeed, win your heart and that that same person would be the Savior of the world?
The Church, in her wisdom, has given us an opportunity to re-examine our lives, our hearts. All too often, we can find ourselves running around consumed with things of the world and not focused on the beauty of this Season. You see, as much as this is a time to prepare for the parties and family gatherings, this is more so a time to prepare our hearts to be won over again by the God who created us for Himself.
I encourage everyone, including myself, to prepare our hearts for the Lover of souls. Take some time this Advent Season to slow down and allow your hearts to be open to the One who seeks it; the Lover of souls. Allow Him, again, to reign in your heart and in your lives.
