Mary's Intercession
As Alycia wrote in last week's blog post, she and I had our LifeTeen retreat this past weekend. It was so blessed beyond what we could have imagined! We saw teens' lives changed, people opening up, bonding together as the Body of Christ, and growing in good, Christian fellowship. I know without a doubt that we owe the success of this retreat to Our Blessed Mother. We kept handing over the retreat to her hands, to open our hearts and take every effort of ours to Jesus to bless. She is the one who multiplied our efforts and softened the hearts of all the participants - the teens and the core team.
Again and again I am amazed at what Our Lady can accomplish for us if we just hand everything over to her. It might seem silly at first to give everything to her, or it may seem that it makes no difference, but when you give and entrust everything to her without reserve, she holds nothing back in her response. God has seen fit to grace her with the role of Mediatrix of All Graces, since it was through her that Jesus was first mediated.
The Holy Spirit didn't have to go through Mary to bring Jesus to us, but He did. In this way, Our Lady is essential to any growth in the spiritual life. The Holy Spirit went through Mary to give us Jesus, so it makes sense that we would also go through Mary to get to Jesus. She alone can take us to Him in a way no one else can, because she knew Him first, and knew Him better than anyone. She is the supreme model of the New Evangelization because she was the first mediator of Jesus to the world - she is the first one to bring Him to all of us.
With this witness of what she can accomplish in our lives, why should we hesitate to bring absolutely everything to her? Like the Queen Mother, she cleans and polishes our feeble efforts and offerings so that they are pleasing to the King. May we never forget her role in our lives, and may we grow ever more in love with her every day!
