May is Mary's Month

I recently helped lead a retreat for the teens in the LifeTeen program at my parish.  The theme was ‘Illuminate’ and we spent an entire weekend talking about Our Lady, the power of the Rosary, how to pray it and its effect on our lives. It was a small and intimate retreat but I’m pretty sure everyone would agree that it was one of the best retreats we’ve had in a while. Why? Because of Our Lady.  She does phenomenal things in our lives when we let her in. Over this short weekend, which probably sums up to about two days, my love for Our Lady increased in leaps and bounds and I found myself wanting to pray the Rosary more often than I already do.

Every single day, we, as Catholic Christians, are bombarded by so many different thoughts, ideas and stresses of life, so it’s good to take the time to quiet our hearts and minds so as to hear Christ speak to us. I find the Rosary to be a good way for me to do that. I pray it every day on my way into work. It reminds me that I am loved and that everything I do, speak, and think at work effects, not only my spiritual life, but also those of my co-workers. I need to be as loving, gentle and encouraging as I can be. My relationship with Our Lady and praying the Rosary daily has had a huge impact on my life. I can honestly say that I would not be who I am today without those two things. And what I love the most about it?! That every step closer I take towards my Heavenly Mother is another step closer to my Beloved!

May is Mary's month. This is the month, where the Church celebrates and honors the gift we have in Our Lady. I encourage everyone to pray the Rosary everyday this month. Pray for the Church, the world, the needs of others and for the strengthening of our relationship with our Mother. The closer we grow to the Immaculate Heart, the closer we are to the Sacred Heart!
