I came across this song a little while back, and have been struck over and over again by its message. It makes me think very strongly of Our Lady, how tenderly she loves us, her children, as our Blessed Mother. Like any good mother, she runs to us when we are hurting. She wraps us in her arms, presses us to her heart, intercedes for us to God, and prays for us. She weeps with us and she laughs with us. She loves us so much that she let her Son be killed on a Cross so that we could be saved.
In this song I picture Mary singing to all of her children in America. It is a hard fact that some of the constitutional rights that built this country are being threatened. Children are no longer safe in their mother’s wombs. The meaning of family is being attacked and threatened. Christians are being forced to pay for the murder of our nation’s children. The meaning and beauty of human sexuality is being destroyed. Human nature and the natural law are being ignored in favor of the pursuit of distorted and disordered pleasures.
Yet we are not without hope. In Fatima, Portugal, our Blessed Mother promised that no matter how bad things got, in the end her Immaculate Heart would triumph. It brings me such hope to remember this. Our Mother never abandons us, especially in our greatest needs. Through all of the confusion and chaos that is a result of the normalization of great moral evil, our Mother never abandons us. She is there to heal our wounds and bring us to Love Himself. She is there as Mediatrix of all graces to pour out God’s grace to every person that will accept it.
Let us not forget our Blessed Mother, who is ready to help us through any adversity. Let us call out to her and pray to her to draw us into the comfort and security of her arms, to press us close to and hold us in her Heart – that Immaculate Heart that will triumph in the end.
